a good time to not overspend

i'm always blissfully unaware of current events. i don't watch news, i don't read newspapers, i try to avoid politics. but i have a long standing subscription of time magazine (which should have ended 5 months ago). that means i have a a tiny, american-shaped worldview.

did you know the american financial market has crashed?

i saw snippets of lehman brothers, AIG  and whatever on yahoo news. But buat dunno je. Then i read time magazine (which explains in layman's terms and the impact in percentage on other world markets).

simply put : american investors borrowed out of their means for a while now, with the financial institutions creating virtual investments and schemes like credit default - so basically americans made money out of nothing. now it's catching up with them. people use words like guaranteed which actually means almost a guarantee.

like, when you buy a house you almost always think the price will go up. Not now it doesn't.

So does this have anything to do with us? All over the world financial markets are feeling the impact. Even asian markets. There's an old lady in Shanghai who put her life savings in blue chips stocks (relatively safe investments like Bank of China, China Telecom) and finds out that her investments have gone down 70%.

So i freak out and wonder malaysian market macamane? kononnye our economy doesn't depend so much on the dollar. do i wake up and realise my asb (yang supposedly guaranteed by the government) tinggal 30%??

of course you know malaysian politicians...semua pon tanak bagitau betol2.

poyo syikin hari ahad sibok tajuk yang tak relevan. itulah...but i've been a little stressed lately, what with seeing EVERYONE pressured with mortgages, loans, work and ntah pape lagi. we all need a plan in life.

the plan that things will just fall in line isn't very viable.  the hope to kawen ngan orang kaya mane2 lacks realism. in the end, tak payah depend kat orang laen. serious kene depend kat diri sendiri.

btw, ntah betol ke tak bende2 yg aku merepek nih.

resolution : this year, no crazy shopping sprees.
