Since it's this time of the month, I'll pick Edinburgh, Scotland. For some reason, looking at pictures and watching Christmas movies, I miss winter. I do. I miss snow (ok maybe the first 1h of snow).
And the ultimate Christmas is, of course - Charles Dickens. Well, London during Christmas is overshadowed by all the Boxing Day shopping to come but Edinburgh with it's lovely people, Scottish traditions and cold, cold winter is the next best thing.
I was in Edinburgh for Hogmanay (Scottish New Year celebration) in 2008 i think. Scotland is gorgeous. With it's cobbled pavements and hilly walkways. I've always been a sucker for a place with history and myths. Had coffee in the cafe where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter and saw Hogwarts - the inspirations behind it anyway from the window. Walked everywhere in kilts and tights and nearing burnt my hair playing with the fire Hogmanay procession.
It was the perfect holiday. I had days of solitude and long walks by myself, reading in bed. Had an awesome Boxing Day shopping session. Walked 20 miles in the middle of nowhere to see Roslyn Chapel on a Sunday and got to enjoy Hogmanay with Junnie!
I miss Europe. I knew I would but well....life really had to move on. I always complained during winter. Sakit badan mengigil hari2, makan lamb steak yummmm. Snuggling under the comforters all day and watching movies. Malasssss sentiasa.
But still it was nice to feel that way every once in a while.
